In the meantime, while I'm waiting to receive my USB dongle, I downloaded SDR#, Touchstone (free version) and RTL Panorama (a frontend for rtl_power): these last two, I think that are more specific for my tests. Well, my main needs are to setup a spectrum analyzer/signal strength meter, since sometime I need to tune/set some RF transmitter/oscillators (for now I don't aim to listen radios)
Yesterday I ordered this DVB-T dongle: "NooElec NESDR Mini 2 USB DVB-T & RTL-SDR Receiver, RTL2832U & R820T2 Tuner, MCX" provided with a telescopic antenna (with magnetic foot, which I will place on the metal radiator of my room),This dongle seems to be a good compromise about the price and the technology. So, some days ago I discovered the ability to set up a tool using a DVB-T Usb dongle and some software available on. Since I have basic/medium skills about RF electronics, was a long time that I was looking for an RF spectrum analyzer/scanner. In contrast, the Planar Disk is almost free and it performs quite well in an indoor setting. Just because an antenna "is sold" does not mean its good or even marginal. Please verify your dongle is working with a good antenna before complaining that you cannot receive something.
